"Arsene Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur" (Arsene Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur, 1907) is the first in a series of detective stories by the French writer Maurice LeBlanc (1864-1941). Published for the first time in the magazine "Je sais tout" ("I know everything") in July 1905, they brought their author world fame. The hero of the nine novels is an unsurpassed robber, a kind of "rolling the field", who is guided only by his own code of honor and, most importantly, is not used to ever retreating.
