William Gerald Golding is an English writer, laureate of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. "Lord of the Flies" - the author's debut work, published in 1954, almost immediately became famous as a classic, but before that Golding was rejected by more than two dozen publishers. At the beginning of the world war, as a result of a plane crash, a group of children ends up on a deserted island. Left without the careful supervision of adults, they joyfully accept the freedom to do whatever they want. The children try to create a society with their own laws, but fail as they experience the true power of violence, sin and evil. The established order of relationships is being destroyed, strange frightening sounds are spreading through the night air. And when fear settles in the hearts of children, the hope for a fun journey full of interesting adventures begins to seem far from reality, as well as the hope for salvation. Called a parable, an allegory, a myth, a morality tale, a parody, a political treatise, even a vision of the coming apocalypse, Lord of the Flies is perhaps the most significant novel about the "former innocence", the "darkness of the human heart".
